A very reliable, compact variety of slicing cucumbers. Fruit grow to about 8 inches long with a lovely deep green colour. Quite versatile in the kitchen; eat fresh or pick when 4-6 inches for maximum crunch pickles. This cucumber is a good candidate for small spaces and container growing.

This variety was one of many cucumbers bred by Cornell University Professor Emeritus Henry Munger between 1950 and 1990, who focused on disease resistance in his breeding programs. Spacemaster retains this quality breeding and shows excellent resistance to the common diseases that plague growers.

TIPS

  • Cucumbers can be grown as seedlings and transplanted into the garden, but I much prefer to direct seed my cucumbers once we're well past frost.
  • I will sometimes place a jar over the emerging sprout until it has put on a couple true leaves. This prevents pest damage and creates a tiny "greenhouse" for your sprout. The fancy name for the jar is a "cloche."
  • Harvesting cucumbers triggers the plant to produce more flowers. I will harvest my cucumbers relatively small at first, to stimulate a larger harvest overall.

Grown organically with love and tenderness in the Bruce Peninsula, Ontario, Canada, in the summer of 2025. Germination tested December 2025. Minimum 30 seeds.
