Purple Morning Glory, Ipomoea purpurea, is a vining plant with rich violet flowers that attracts moths and even hummingbirds. It is a tenacious little plant that can be direct seeded a week or two after the last frost (or started indoors earlier for that extra head start). With a little water, weeding, and something to climb, they'll get well established and mostly take care of themselves within a month or two.

Morning Glory is a common companion plant for a variety of reasons. I plant mine between peas, as they like the same kind of trellising and add vibrant colour. (Note that Cascadia pea pods are pictured in the last photo, also available on this website.)

***A note on germination: Morning Glory seeds must be chipped and soaked to achieve proper germination. Nick the very outer part of the seed with a nail clipper and soak for 12-24 hours in room temperature water. Seeds will absorb water through the scratch and become plump. They are then ready for planting indoors or outdoors.***

Grown organically with love and tenderness in the Bruce Peninsula, Ontario, Canada, in the summer of 2023. Germination tested. Minimum 30 seeds.
