Did you know this fragrant plant is a cross between American and Indian types of basil? This productive and hardy species has such a lovely lemon flavour, I like to use it in lemonade. It works well in savoury dishes and can even be dried and used for a unique tea.

Growing Notes:

  • Once planted it only takes a few weeks for your lemon basil to be ready to eat. For this reason it can be planted throughout the season and is even a great candidate for indoor winter growing.
  • Basil stops adding new growth once it produces flowers. For this reason, I like to harvest my basil very aggressively before it even starts flowering at all. Cut back all branches and watch as your plant grows back bigger each time. If flowers do start growing, harvest the flowering branch.
  • I always plant some basil between my tomatoes; space your tomatoes 2.5 feet apart with basil centred between.

Grown organically with love and tenderness in the Bruce Peninsula, Ontario, Canada, in the summer of 2023. Germination tested December 2024. Minimum 50 seeds.
