Forme de Coeur Tomato
This Quebecois heirloom's name translates to "heart-shaped." It is in danger of going extinct as it is no longer widely grown, despite being a backyard gardener's dream. The plants are about 3 feet high and sturdy, bearing several crops of fire-engine red, perfectly tender tomatoes. Suitable for garden or large container. This is the perfect plant for someone who wants one or two lovely tomatoes each day. Determinate and open-pollinated.
TIPS
- This variety has a short grow period compared with other heirlooms and is often the first of my plants to produce fruit.
- As with other determinate varieties, this heirloom does a few rounds of flowering before dying back. Depending on how early you planted, it may stop flowering in the early fall.
- Forme de Coeur is technically a kind of paste tomato, but has been bred to be suitable for more purposes e.g. eating fresh off the vine. It also has less uniformity than most paste tomatoes, providing fruit of varying size.
- After a couple years of work, I have improved this genetic line to have much higher germination (>95%) than when the seed first arrived with me
Grown organically with love and tenderness in the Bruce Peninsula, Ontario, Canada, in the summer of 2025. Germination tested December 2025. Quantity, 30 seeds.
