Diamond Eggplant
Diamond Eggplant is the heirloom version of the "grocery store" eggplant- far more flavourful and nutritious, but familiar and easy to work with. Plants reach about two feet tall maximum. Prune off flowers within 8 inches of the ground, as the resulting eggplant may hit soil as it matures.
Heirloom eggplants are notoriously tricky to grow, but with this variety I was able to produce a large yield growing outdoors, without cover. Try putting mulch around your transplants to trap heat in the roots overnight early in the season. Sustained high winds will lead to scarring and cracking on eggplants.
Grown organically with love and tenderness in the Bruce Peninsula, Ontario, Canada, in the summer of 2023. Germination tested. Minimum 30 seeds.
